Installation Tips for Aerial Cable Installation
Installation Tips for Aerial Cable Installation
November 17, 2020

When it comes to installing cables, there are two options to do so. The first is to go underground, and the second is to tap the space in overhead lines. Of these two options, aerial fibre cable installation is very common. Aerial fibre cables are specially designed to prevent man-made damage or theft, and prevent the destruction of nature. The list of cable installation tools, in this case, differs from that used for underground installation. The same goes for the steps involved during the process. However, one thing remains for both ways, there are certain tips to follow to ensure safety and proper installation.

Before Installation

Prior to installation, make sure that there is a proper plan first wherein all the parties involved in the project approve the plan, and are present during the cable route survey. Also, there should be enough clearances between the electrical power cables and the fibre optic cables on joint-use poles.

In particular, any dead-end pole should be examined carefully to determine if they can deal with the stresses present during cable installation. The same goes for temporary guying to help prevent unbalanced loading during the actual installation process. Finally, it should be noted that aerial installation must never be performed during wet conditions and that proper cable installation tools must be used to prevent untoward accidents.

During Installation

During the cable installation, the safety of the installers must be a top priority. Here are some tips to follow to ensure this. First and foremost, ensure that all the cable installation tools and equipment are in proper working condition as malfunctioning equipment can either cause injury to workers or damage the cables, or both in some cases. Moreover, be extra careful when dealing with potential electrical hazards and make sure that the area inside the cable loop is clear of anything. Otherwise, injury and damage may occur.
