5 Safety Tips for Operating Aerial Equipment in the Workplace

August 14, 2019

AMAC Equipment is a reputable provider of aerial equipment in Ontario. Our reputation for quality comes from our adherence to ensuring our products meet Canadian safety standards while also maintaining that our clients are able to perform their daily operations at peak effectiveness and efficiency.

We work hard to make sure that technicians feel comfortable with using our aerial equipment on the job.

Today we’ll discuss 5 safety tips for operating equipment in the workplace.

1. Proper Training

Having adequate training is imperative to ensuring you do not put yourself and others at risk when operating equipment onsite. Whether the training is general or hands-on, it is essential that you understand the functionality and safety precautions necessary to ensure work is conducted effectively, while also minimizing the potential for any safety hazards to occur.

2. Obey Safety Rules

This one might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s still important to note that careless behaviour contributes to avoidable safety hazards. Be sure to stay well-versed in all your employer’s safety rules and comply with relevant safety standards when on the job site.

3. Pre-Operation Inspection

Check the operational efficiency of all equipment onsite before use. If a machine or piece of equipment fails any preliminary inspection, make sure that it is immediately tagged as such and undergoes proper repair from the relevant qualified service technician.

4. Jobsite Hazard Assessment

Just as it is important to inspect all machinery and equipment before use, it is also essential to thoroughly check the jobsite for potential hazards. Holes, power lines, drop offs, slopes, and/or unstable surfaces can become prospective safety hazards. Develop a plan with your team on how to best approach these potential hazards when operating machinery and equipment.

5. Wear the Proper Safety Gear

Aerial work will require certain protective gear to avoid potential hazards. Wear the right gear for the job, and do not cut corners when wearing it properly. Connect your gear to the designated anchor points, and if you have any questions be sure to always ask for help. You can never be too safe when it comes to working with aerial equipment.
